Security forces in Pakistan have rescued 190 railway passengers held hostage by separatist terrorists in the country’s southwest Balochistan province. Known for its rebellion against the Pakistani state, the group surrounded the hostages with suicide bages and demanded the release of the jailed militants in lieu of passengers. Pakistani security forces fought a fierce battle with heavy -armed rebels, killing at least 30 terrorists so far. Helicopters were deployed to help the grassroots soldiers in bumpy areas, while the authorities described the incident as a terrorist act. Overall, more than 190 out of the estimated 450 passengers have been rescued, and the campaign continues.

This attack is the first known example of successfully kidnapping the train by BLA. The group has earlier targeted security forces and infrastructure, but has also attacked citizens including Chinese citizens involved in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). China has condemned the attack, Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning confirmed the support of Beijing for Pakistan’s anti -terrorism efforts.
