In Madhya Pradesh’s Mauganj district on Saturday, a group of tribals allegedly attacked the police team who arrived to save the kidnapped person, killing a policeman. An official gave this information.
The official said that the group had also killed the kidnapped person. He said that the incident took place in Gadra village, about 25 km from the district headquarters and five people have been detained by the police in connection with the incident.
Rewa Range Deputy Inspector General of Police Saket Pandey told ‘PTI-Bhasha’, “Two people, including an ASI (Assistant Sub-Inspector), died and other policemen have suffered minor injuries.”
Sources said that after the mob surrounded the mob, the police had to firing in the air in self -defense. When asked about the firing by the police, Pandey said, “I will reach there and investigate.”
Local sources said that a person named Sunny Dwivedi was abducted by a group of people from the Kol tribe on Saturday. According to sources, those people suspected that Dwivedi killed a tribal named Ashok Kumar a few months ago.
According to police records, Kumar died in a road accident. After receiving information about the kidnapping of Dwivedi, a team led by Sandeep Bhartiya, in -charge of Shahpur police station, reached Gadra village to save him. Police said that by that time Dwivedi had died after allegedly beating in a room.
According to the police, when the policemen opened the room, a group of tribals attacked them with sticks and stones, injuring some of them policemen. An official said the injured policemen were rushed to the hospital, but the special armed forces ASI Charan Gautam succumbed during treatment. He said that a heavy police force has been deployed to bring the situation under control.
Meanwhile, Mauganj District Magistrate Ajay Srivastava and Superintendent of Police Rachna Thakur said in a video message that Section 163 of the Indian Civil Protection Code (maintaining public system and preventing disturbances) has been implemented in the area.
The District Magistrate said that the situation is completely under control. The two officials appealed to the people to help the police and officers to do their work and to help them in maintaining peace in the area.
