After the arrest of Congress spokesperson Ritam Singh on the social media post on Saturday, party leader Gaurav Gogoi alleged that Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sharma is ‘misusing’ the state police force. U
He asked Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who visited Assam, whether he knew about such activities. Gogoi wrote on ‘X’, “A team of Lakhimpur police has come to Guwahati to take Congress spokesperson Ritam Singh into custody. When I went to his (Singh) residence, I saw how he was drastically dragged and not allowed to talk to me. ”
He said that the Union Home Minister has come to inaugurate a police academy in Assam. Gogoi said, “I want to ask him whether he (Amit Shah) is aware of the misuse of the police in the Chief Minister Himant Vishwa Sharma government. Does Home Minister Amit Shah know that a few days ago the BJP goons had brutally beat up two Assam constables in broad daylight and they were not arrested. ”
The Congress leader alleged that the Chief Minister is ‘forcing the police to adopt illegal activities, which are contrary to the law and the High Court’. He said, “The ‘track record’ of police officers is deteriorating with the political intention of Himant Vishwa Sharma. The public is watching. ”
Lakhimpur Superintendent of Police Mihirjeet Gayan told ‘PTI-Bhasha’ that Singh was arrested two days ago after a complaint of BJP MLA Manab Deka’s wife for a post on ‘X’.
He said, “We have arrested him under the relevant sections of the law. He is now being brought to Lakhimpur. ” Singh posted on ‘X’ on 13 March, which mentioned the news of three people convicted by the court in a case of rape in Dhemaji district in 2021.
