The North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, about 50 km from Kolkata, the capital of the state, is a small village named Chattalpali. On 6 September 2010, a piece of land was disputed here. There was a cemetery on one side and the temple on the other, where Durga Puja used to be done. Both used to separate both a narrow way. That morning the news spread in the village that some people of the Muslim community are digging that path. Hindus described it as a conspiracy to disturb it in Durga Puja. The matter spread like a spark and violence erupted in the village. The police charged sticks to control the situation. Some Muslim youths were detained. But in the evening, an angry mob attacked the police station. There was a robbery in the shops of Hindus. Trains were set on fire. The situation became so uncontrollable that the rapid action force and army had to call, yet the fire of violence did not cool for four days. This fire made 23 houses ashes. 250 shops were robbed and five temples were damaged. This happened when there was a Left government in the state. The government changed in 2011 but what situation changed? The answer is not. This was neither the first incident nor the last in West Bengal. The year 1946, the country was a restless to gain independence. The fire of the two -world World War was not completely extinguished. The British government had taken the decision that the British would leave these countries. Under the leadership of Mohammad Ali Jinnah, a section had claimed to divide India for his selfishness. Their demand was that a separate nation including Amritsar and Kolkata in Punjab, which will be built only for Muslims and will be named Pakistan. Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee’s slogan of a country, a legislation, a mark and a constitution was echoing all over the country. But the Muslim League’s Direct Action Day announcement forced the entire country to play with fire. Jinnah said that if Bengal does not get the right decision on time, then we will have to show our strength. We have nothing to do with India. We want Pakistan, whether independent Pakistan will get freedom or not. The month of Ramadan was going on in those days and 16 August 1946 was the 17th day of Ramadan month. Keeping this in mind, the leaders of Sohravardi and Muslim League took a papers to every house in the Muslim area. The leaders of the Muslim League had very vicious ways of direct action day to Badar’s war, jihad and Kafirs. Rabindranath Dutta, who survived in ‘Direct Action Day’, saw the cruelty of the Muslim crowd in front of his eyes. He is 92 years old. According to this, he was in puberty at that time and he must have been around 24 years of age. He has told how the beef shops of Raja Bazar were hung from the hooks of naked corpses of Hindu women. He said that many Hindu students studying in Victoria College were raped, murdered and their corpses were hung from hostel windows. Rabindranath Dutta has seen the mutilated corpses of Hindus with his own eyes. There was a edge of blood on the ground, which was also flowing from under his feet. Many of these women were also missing from their corpses. He had black marks on his private parts.

The massacre, which started from 16 August, continued till 20 August. Even after that incidents of violence continued. The migration of Hindus forced to leave Calcutta began.
