India has extended the date of Pakistani citizens trapped in India to Pakistan. Many Pakistani citizens have reached the Wagah-Attari border to enter Pakistan. Nevertheless, the Pak government is not allowing them to enter Pakistan. Indian immigration officials have confirmed that Pakistan has closed its reception counters from 8 am today, due to which dozens of Pakistani citizens have been trapped on the border.

Sources show that Pakistani citizens – including elderly persons, women and children – are now trapped in uncertainty, they have neither shelter nor food, nor any clarity about their situation. Security has been increased at the Attari post amid concerns over the sudden and unclear refusal from the Pakistani side. There have been sharp reactions on social media on this incident, many people have described it as shameful for Pakistan.
Unlike Pakistan’s stance, the Government of India has allowed Pakistani citizens to return home via the Attari-Wagah border until further orders. The latest order of the Ministry of Home Affairs amends its earlier instruction, in which the border was ordered to be closed from April 30. The latest order stated, “The order has been reviewed and with partial amendment, it is now ordered that Pakistani citizens can be allowed to go from India to Pakistan from the integrated investigation post at Attari with proper approval.”

It is a matter of relief for those who are stranded on the border after the deadline ends on 30 April. However, sources said that Pakistan has not yet opened the border gates to let its citizens go inside. In six days, 786 Pakistani citizens, including 55 diplomats and their assistant employees, crossed the Attari-Wagah border in six days after the Center’s directive. 1,465 Indians have come to India from Pakistan. The instruction came after the Pahalgam attack in which 25 tourists and a Kashmiri local person were shot dead by terrorists in Pakistan.
