Three new judges can be seen in SC after summer holidays, collegium recommends

The Supreme Court Collegium, led by Chief Justice of India BR Gavai, recommended promoting three High Court judges to the Supreme Court of India. The recommended names include Justice NV Anjaria, who is currently the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court, Justice Vijay Bishnoi, who is the Chief Justice of the Guwahati High Court, and Justice Atul S Chandurkar, who is the judge of the Bombay High Court.

Justice NV Anjaria, who launched his legal career from the Gujarat High Court in August 1988, has a broad background in constitutional, civil and labor law. He was appointed as an additional judge of the Gujarat High Court in 2011 and became a permanent judge after two years. In 2024, he was appointed Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court. Justice Vijay Bishnoi, who is a graduate in 1989, has spent most of his careers in the Rajasthan High Court, where he has handled several cases of civil, criminal and constitutional law. In addition, he represented various state departments between 2000 and 2004 as a permanent lawyer of the Additional Central Government. Justice Bishnoi became the Chief Justice of the Guwahati High Court in February 2024.

Justice Atul S Chandurkar has been an advocate since 1988, he practiced in Mumbai before going to Nagpur in 1992. With a diverse legal background, he was appointed as Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court in 2013. Apart from his judicial career, Justice Chandurkar is also a skilled writer who has written legal books on the municipal and rent control laws of Maharashtra.
