Stampede in Bengaluru: Police detained RCB and management company officials

Outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium, officials of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and ‘DNA Entertainment Private Limited’ were detained in connection with the stampede.

Police sources gave this information on Friday. On Wednesday, 11 people were killed and more than 56 were injured in a stampede after a large number of cricket lovers gathered near the Chinnaswamy Stadium here to participate in the RCB victory in the Indian Premier League (IPL) finals.

These officers were detained under a joint operation of the Crime Branch and the Bengaluru Police. Sources said that RCB’s marketing and revenue head Nikhil Sosh, Sunil Matthew and Kiran Kumar of DNA Entertainment Private Limited are being questioned.

He said that further process will be done later. Some of them were allegedly detained from the Camemegowda International Airport (KIA) which is located on the outskirts of the city.

The police took this action after the FIR was registered against RCB, DNA and Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) on Thursday. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had directed the State Director General of Police and Inspector General of Police on Thursday that RCB and DNA event manager and KSC representatives should be arrested immediately in connection with the stampede as they did “negligence” prima facie.
