Cleaning of Yamuna river at high speed, Center and Delhi government joined hands, plan for drone survey of 22 major drains

The Central Government and the Delhi government have started a joint effort to clean the Yamuna River, in which several initiatives have been taken to reduce pollution. A drone survey for 22 major drains will be conducted and 67 places have been identified for pollution monitoring. A top formula said that the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) would re -verify 360 small and large drains and conduct drone survey for 22 major drains falling in the river.

67 places have been identified for pollution monitoring in the Yamuna River. He said that a survey would be conducted by July and the report would be submitted to the Delhi Jal Board. By September 2025, a permanent system will be installed to measure pollution effects twice a year at 67 identified places. Under the administrative control of the Ministry of Water Power, the central public sector company WAPCOS, a fully owned by the Government of India, has been tasked to measure the flow of water in the drains, which will be completed by July.

By August, the National Mission for Clean Ganga will also survey Najafgarh and Shahdara drains. The Delhi Jal Board will survey the remaining 20 major drains.
A senior official said that in addition, the Delhi government is setting up 32 real-time water monitoring stations, including 10 stations on the Yamuna River and 22 stations on major drains.In Delhi’s Budget 2025-26, CM Gupta of Delhi has specially allocated Rs 500 crore for cleaning the Yamuna, where funds will be allocated for the construction of 40 decentralized sewage treatment plant (STP).
