Congress will collect caste data in Karnataka, DK Shivkumar said after meeting with party high command

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivkumar announced on Tuesday that the central leadership of the Congress has ordered a new caste census in the state. DK Shivkumar, who was present in Delhi with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, said that the party high command has advised the Chief Minister and to ensure that as far as caste census is concerned, everyone should be heard. He said that caste census should be done in such a way that no one feels deprived. He said that the central leadership said this after many MLAs, ministers and MPs raised the issues.

Shivkumar said that we will give a new opportunity to all those who feel that they were deprived of the earlier caste survey. He said that the state cabinet will discuss this, plan and then ensure justice to all. It should be noted that the previous caste survey in the state, which was done in 2015 during the last term of Siddaramaiah, was in controversies and many classes disputed its conclusions.
Top Congress leaders said on Tuesday that they have decided to re -calculate the caste figures in Karnataka to remove the concerns of some communities who had complained about being excluded from the survey conducted 10 years ago. The decision was taken in a high -level meeting of the party, in which the government’s way of dealing with a stampede in Bengaluru on 4 June was also reviewed, in which 11 people lost their lives.

Caste census emerged as a major state issue, which was discussed in a meeting, in which Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, senior leader Rahul Gandhi, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivkumar were present. Giving information to the media after the meeting, AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal said, “The caste census was discussed. The Congress party is thinking that whatever the Karnataka government has done in the caste census, there should be a theoretically agreed.
