Three Maoists, including a central committee member, were killed in a firing between police and CPI (Maoist) party workers on Wednesday in the Mardumilli forests of Alluri Sitaramraju district of Andhra Pradesh. There is a continuous encounter between security forces and Maoists.

A day earlier on June 17, Maoists brutally murdered three villagers of Maoists who surrendered in Peddakorama village in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh. The Maoists also attacked other villagers and there are reports that more than a dozen people were abducted and taken to the forest. It is believed that the purpose of this attack is to terrorize the local people and punish people associated with surrendered Maoists.

According to the police, around 4 pm on Tuesday, Maoists strangled Jhingu Modiaam, Soma Modiam and Anil Madavi with a rope. It is being told that two of the killed people were relatives of Maoist Commander Dinesh Modiaam, who took up arms a few months ago. Dinesh was the most dreaded Maoist in Bijapur, whose surrender was very important for the police to gather information and Maoist strategies.
