Former Delhi minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Satyendar Jain may face new legal difficulties after the prosecution was approved in the money laundering case. The approval was given on February 18, 2025 after requests made by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on 14 February 2025.
Government case against Satyendra Jain
The Ministry of Home Affairs said that there is enough material to prosecute Jain on the basis of the evidence provided by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). As a result, the Ministry sought approval from the President for legal action. After the approval, the case will now be heard under Section 2018 of the Civil Protection Code (BNSS) 2023.

Allegations against Satyendra Jain
Jain was arrested by the ED on 30 May 2022 in a money laundering case. He was accused of making money laundering of Rs 16.39 crore through shell companies in 2015-2016. After his arrest, he was sent to Tihar Jail, where he remained in custody for a long time. However, on October 18, 2023, a Delhi court granted bail, delaying the case and long imprisonment as the main reason.
AAP called it a conspiracy of BJP
During the hearing on Jain’s bail, the ED, opposing his release, argued that he could influence witnesses if he was released. However, the AAP leaders appreciated the court’s decision of bail, calling it the victory of truth and the defeat of the BJP’s conspiracy.

Earlier on 26 May 2023, Jain was granted interim bail on medical grounds after spinal surgery. After getting the approval of the prosecution from the President, now the case against Satyendra Jain will go to the court. If he is found guilty, he may face serious legal consequences, which may affect the AAP’s reputation before his political career and major elections. The matter remains a major political issue of ongoing tussle between AAP and BJP in Delhi, in which both parties are accusing corruption and political vengeance.
