The Uttar Pradesh Anti -Terrorism Squad (UP ATS) has arrested Mohammad Tufail from Nawapura in Varanasi on charges of spying for Pakistan. According to sources, more than 500 mobile numbers of Purvanchal region of Uttar Pradesh associated with Tufail’s WhatsApp group are now under surveillance. Investigation revealed that after joining several WhatsApp group associated with Pakistan, Tufail was directed to contact a woman named Nafisa of Faisalabad. Gradually he got stuck in a honey trap. Tufail used to chat with Nafisa regularly and started sending pictures of sensitive places to him.

Tufail not only shared information with Nafisa, but also sent him gifts. Investigation agencies have confirmed that it transported the goods to Nepal and Punjab, including a sari and a suit. UP ATS is currently trying to find out in which cities Tufail went to Nafisa’s behest and shared what sensitive pictures or videos he shared with her. He is also investigating his participation in religious ceremonies or conferences participated by Muslim youth.

Large groups associated with Jamaat, which were often between 200 and 250, regularly came to Tufail’s house. After traveling to various cities of UP and Sirhind in Punjab, Tufail allegedly formed around 20 WhatsApp groups. Tufail used these groups to emotionally influenced Muslim youth, including educated persons in cities like Varanasi, Mau, Azamgarh and Lucknow. He often shared inflammatory videos including Maulana Saad Rizvi and condemned the Babri Masjid demolition, calling it an insult to Islam.

Tufail, like Pakistan, also posted messages advocating the establishment of Sharia law in India in legal and political ways. He claimed that India needs Islamic scholars like Saad Rizvi to guide Muslim youth in the right direction. The ATS is now investigating Tufail’s bank accounts and identifying his Pakistani and Indian contacts. Officers are investigating all the financial transactions related to it and increasing the surveillance on suspicious numbers.
