The former Maharashtra minister wrote in a post on 'X', “Yesterday's celebration in Mumbai is also a strong message to BCCI that never take away the World Cup final from Mumbai.” Thackeray's remarks came a day after the T20 World Cup winning Indian team's 'Vijay Parade' in Mumbai in which a huge crowd gathered to welcome the players.

Mumbai: Shiv Sena (Uttar Pradesh) leader Aaditya Thackeray on Friday said the grand welcome given to the T20 World Cup-winning Indian cricket team in Mumbai is also a message to the BCCI to never take away the final of any major tournament from the country's financial capital. Thackeray's remarks appear to have been aimed at criticising the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for giving the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup final to Ahmedabad instead of Mumbai.

India lost to Australia in the World Cup final in November last year.
