Politics has intensified over the statement of JKNC vice-president Omar Abdullah on Afzal Guru. BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi has strongly attacked Omar Abdullah. Sudhanshu Trivedi said that the recent statement of Congress party, the main ally of India Alliance, his old family friend and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah is certainly nothing but a clear disclosure of his nefarious, hateful, separatist anti-national design.

The BJP leader said that when Omar Abdullah says that Afzal Guru’s case does not deserve hanging, I want to ask the Congress whether the investigating agencies were working wrongly under your rule. He questioned whether the Supreme Court of India gave a wrong decision during the UPA government? Along with this, he said that I want to remind the people of the country that in the decision on the Parliament attack, the SC used the word that it is the rarest of rare crimes. So was the SC wrong or the President of India.
Sudhanshu Trivedi said that this is the same party which had said in its manifesto that they will restore Article 370 and the same party’s senior leader Farooq Abdullah had said in October 2020 that they will restore 370 with the help of China. He said that Congress is showing its true nefarious design through proxies. They cannot escape their responsibility by saying it’s their personal statement because Rahul Gandhi was present there and giving moral support to those who were raising slogans of ‘Afzal hum sharminda hain, tere qatil zinda hain’.
BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad even said that ‘the Abdullah family is soft on terrorists.’ Mohammad Afzal Guru was a Kashmiri separatist convicted for his role in the 2001 Parliament attack. He received the death sentence for his involvement, which was upheld by the Supreme Court. Following the rejection of his mercy petition by the President of India, he was hanged in 2013.

BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said, ‘Afzal Guru was given death sentence by the law. The case went to the Supreme Court and was also reviewed but he was found involved in anti-national and terrorist activities. In the elections, he (Omar Abdullah) is saying that hanging him (Afzal Guru) was a wrong decision, what does he want? I condemn this, this is an irresponsible and anti-national statement.” He said that the Jammu and Kashmir government had nothing to do with the hanging of Afzal Guru, otherwise you would have to take permission from the state government, which I can tell you in no uncertain terms.
