Following the objections of the temple’s system (priests), he was again appointed on office duty. Since his appointment, Tantra had allegedly boycotted temple celebrations in protest, due to which a person from the Pisharodi community was appointed to perform rituals.
The Kerala State Human Rights Commission has automatically taken cognizance of the incident of alleged caste discrimination in a temple in Irinjalakuda, Thrissur. The Commission has directed the Cochin Devaswom Commissioner and Executive Officer of Kudalmanikyam Temple to investigate and submit the report within two weeks. The case revolves around a person named Balu from the Ejhawa community known as the Other Backward Classes in Kerala, who was appointed as ‘Kazakam’ staff member. After passing the examination of Kerala Devaswom Recruitment Board, he was given this role, and he was responsible for the work related to the temple such as garland.
However, after the objections of the temple’s system (priests), they were re -appointed on office duty. Since his appointment, Tantra had allegedly boycotted temple celebrations in protest, due to which a person from the Pisharodi community was appointed to perform rituals.
CK Gopi, chairman of the Kudalmanikam Devaswom Board, said that action will be taken if caste discrimination is confirmed. He said that a written explanation would be sought from the sand on leave. The Devaswom Board is going to discuss the matter in a meeting to decide on their restoration next week.
