Citing the alleged remarks of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, that no Waqf could knock the court against the tribunal, Owaisi alleged that Shah was “lying”.
AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday criticized the ruling Central Government for the Waqf (Amendment) Bill and alleged that it should be called the ‘robbers’ (amendment) law’ as the BJP -led government wants to snatch the Waqf properties. Owaisi said that BJP and NDA governments are working as robbers. They want to take away Waqf properties. “He said,” Why are you removing the survey commissioner (according to the proposed bill)? This is the post of the most senior officer. It is all for loot. It should be called ‘robbers (amendments) laws’, not Waqf (amendment).
Citing the alleged remarks of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, that no Waqf could knock the court against the tribunal, Owaisi alleged that Shah was “lying”. The AIMIM chief said that there are several tribunals including the Income Tax Tribunal and Railway Claim Tribunal and a review petition can be filed in the High Court against their decisions. The AIMIM chief said, “Can you file a (review petition) against the Income Tax Tribunal? Amit Shah is misleading the country and lying.”
Owaisi, an outspoken critic of the Bill, also alleged that it violates several provisions of the Constitution including Articles 14, 26 and 29. Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Friday that the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, which was sent to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) in August 2024, will be re -introduced in the current session of Parliament, which is ending on April 3. He said that no one should be afraid of the proposed law as the Narendra Modi government is amending the Waqf Act under the scope of the Constitution.
