At the SCO conference, Foreign Minister Jaishankar said that countries that provide shelter to terrorism need to be 'isolated' and 'exposed'

Astana. India on Thursday asked the international community to “isolate” and “expose” countries that support terrorists, provide them safe havens and ignore terrorism. In an indirect dig at China and Pakistan, India said that if terrorism is left unbridled, it can become a major threat to regional and global peace. Expressing the views of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, Jaishankar said that one of the basic objectives of the SCO is to fight terrorism.

“Many of us have our own experiences, often unfolding beyond our borders. It must be clear that if terrorism is left unchecked, it can become a major threat to regional and global peace. Terrorism in any form or form cannot be justified or condoned,” Jaishankar said at the conference, which was also attended by Chinese President Xi Jinping, Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Jaishankar, in an apparent reference to Pakistan and its ally China, said the international community must “isolate and expose countries that shelter terrorists, provide safe havens and promote terrorism”.

China has often blocked proposals in the United Nations to blacklist Pakistan's wanted terrorists. He said, “There is a need for a decisive response to cross-border terrorism and to deal firmly with the financing and recruitment of terrorism. We must take proactive steps to stop efforts to spread radicalism among our youth. ” Jaishankar said that the joint statement issued on this subject during India's chairmanship last year underlines New Delhi's shared commitment.

He underlined that the SCO provides a unique platform for people to unite, cooperate, grow and prosper, following the age-old principle of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' which means the whole world is one family. Jaishankar later wrote on 'X', “Delivered India's statement at the Summit of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO on behalf of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji. Thank you to the leaders present at the Summit for congratulating PM Narendra Modi on his re-election for the third consecutive term.
