Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced to change the names of various places in Haridwar, Dehradun, Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar districts. He said that it is a need to keep pace with public sentiment and Indian culture and heritage. According to the ANI report, the official statement said that the initiative to change the name is to honor the historical personalities who have contributed to the conservation of Indian culture.

Aurangzebpur- Shivaji Nagar became
Ghaziwali- Arya Nagar
Chandpur- Jyotiba Phule Nagar
Mohammadpur Jat- Mohanpur Jat
Khanpur Kursali- Ambedkar Nagar
Indraspur- Nandpur
Khanpur- Sri Krishna Pur
Akbarpur Fazalpur- Vijayanagar

Names in lieu of these places in Dehradun

Mianwala- Ramji Wala
Pirwala- Kesari Nagar
Chandpur Khurd- Prithviraj Nagar
Abdullah Nagar- Daksha Nagar

The Nawabi Road in Nainital will now be called Atal Marg and the road from Panchakki to ITI Guru Golwalkar Marg. The name of Sultanpur Patti Nagar Palika Parishad in Udham Singh Nagar will be changed to Kaushalya Puri. Manveer Chauhan, the media in -charge of BJP in the state, said, “The Bharatiya Janata Party welcomes this decision.
