bcci confirms ipl 2025 start date

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially announced the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, which is scheduled to begin on March 23, 2025. BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla revealed the start date after the BCCI Special General Meeting (SGM) held in Mumbai on Sunday.

New secretary and treasurer of BCCI elected

At the SGM, Devjit Saikia and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia were elected unopposed as the new BCCI Secretary and Treasurer respectively. Shukla said, ‘Devjit Saikia has been elected as the new BCCI secretary and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia as the treasurer.’

The post of secretary was vacant after Jay Shah officially assumed the role of International Cricket Council (ICC) president in December. Meanwhile, Ashish Shelar resigned from the post of BCCI treasurer after being appointed as a cabinet minister in the Maharashtra government.

Upcoming decisions for Champions Trophy

Shukla also confirmed that a meeting has been scheduled on January 18 or 19 to finalize India’s squad for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. The decision has been taken following reports that India’s squad announcement may be delayed despite the ICC setting January 12 as the last date for submission of applications.

So far, England, New Zealand and Bangladesh have announced their squads for the tournament. India will begin their Champions Trophy campaign with a group-stage match against Bangladesh in Dubai on February 20, followed by a high-stakes encounter against Pakistan on February 23 and a match against New Zealand on March 2, all in Will be in Dubai only.
