Bihar Budget: Last budget presented before assembly elections, government’s special attention on women

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government of Bihar made several announcements in the budget on Monday, focusing special focus on women in the election year, from ‘Pink Toilets’ to ‘Pink Bus’ facility, 33 percent reservation for half the population on various posts of Transport Corporation and proposal to establish ‘Kanya Vivah Mandap’ at the level of panchayats. Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Samrat Chaudhary presented the budget for FY 2025-2026 in the Assembly on Monday. This is the last budget of the state before the assembly elections.
There is a possibility of assembly elections in Bihar this year in October-November this year. Chaudhary announced in his budget speech that a ‘moving gymnasium’ (gym on wheel) will be opened for women in Patna city, in which trainers will also be women and its purpose is to keep women healthy. Within the budget, it has been proposed to set up a “Mahila Haat” (women’s market) in Patna. Apart from this, “pink toilets” have also been proposed in all districts and “pink buses” have also been proposed in all major cities.
Chaudhary said, “We also propose to establish a girl marriage pavilion in all panchayats, which will meet the needs of poor rural families with married girls.” According to the budget announcements, hostels will be opened for working women in cities, ‘pink toilets’ will be built in cities. Chaudhary said, “Pink bus will run in all major cities, which will have drivers, operators and riding women.
He announced that women will be trained as drivers and conductors in Bihar buses and instructors will also be women. The Deputy Chief Minister said that there will be a provision of 33 percent reservation for women from Bihar State Road Transport Corporation to the post of Director Driver, Conductor and ‘Eco Maintenance Staff’. He said that Mahila Haat (special market for women) will be established in Patna and places for women will be fixed in business sites established in all major cities.
