The BJP claimed that the ongoing raids of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) have highlighted large -scale financial irregularities, while the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has dismissed the allegations as baseless.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the Tamil Nadu government led by Chief Minister MK Stalin of scam of Rs 1,000 crore through the Government Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation. The BJP claimed that the ongoing raids of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) have highlighted large -scale financial irregularities, while the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has dismissed the allegations as baseless. The BJP also accused Stalin of spreading baseless rumors on the triple policy and other issues to divert attention from the scam.

These allegations came to light on the same day that the DMK government presented the budget of Tamil Nadu 2025-26 in the state assembly. Finance Minister Thangam Thenarasu announced major allocation for various welfare schemes including rent-free bus travel scheme, employment generation initiative and development of infrastructure for women. However, the budget session was interrupted by the opposition parties, in which All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) walked out over the alleged scam. Leader of Opposition, Edappadi’s Palaniswami demanded that the DMK government take moral responsibility of alleged corruption and resign. Along with the BJP, the AIADMK has also intensified the demand for clarification from the state government about the findings of ED.

Tamil Nadu minister V Senthil Balaji said on Friday that the government liquor retail seller ‘TASMAC’ by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has a claim of Rs 1000 crore scam and it is a general charge and the government is ready to face the matter legally. The Excise Minister said that the state -owned liquor company Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) works with transparency. He told reporters here that ED officials have not clarified which FIR became the basis for initiating action. He said, “Legal action will be taken in the case.”
