BJP criticises Jairam Ramesh for sharing issues on social media during all-party meeting

New Delhi. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday criticised Congress leader Jairam Ramesh for sharing some of the issues raised by various parties during the all-party meeting on a social media platform at the same time and said the opposition party should consider sending a more experienced leader for such a meeting next time. Ramesh, who was present in the meeting, had claimed that in the all-party meeting held ahead of the Parliament session, Janata Dal (United) and YSR Congress demanded special status for Bihar and Andhra Pradesh respectively but strangely the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) remained silent on the issue.

“In the all-party meeting of the leaders of the House today chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, the JD(U) leader demanded special status for Bihar. The YSR Congress leader demanded special status for Andhra Pradesh. Strangely, the TDP leader remained silent on the issue,” Ramesh said in a post on Twitter. Ramesh's social media post came when the meeting was still going on.

Amit Malviya, head of the BJP's information and technology department, said that people associated with these all-party meetings have a specific rationale and protocol. He said, there is a free and frank exchange of views after the media briefing. But a look at Jairam Ramesh's timeline shows that he was posting the proceedings live.

“Next time, the Congress should consider sending a more experienced leader for these meetings,” Malviya said in a post on X. Ramesh's post had a political motive to bring out the demands of the two government allies who attended the meeting and corner the government. The JD(U) and TDP are BJP allies and both have been demanding special status for their states for a long time. This is an issue that can create problems for the central government as well. Officials say that the recommendation of the Finance Commission accepted by the government rules out the possibility of special status. The Congress leader also targeted TDP, another BJP ally, and said that while the YSR Congress raised the demand for special status in the meeting, Andhra Pradesh's ruling TDP remained silent on the issue.
