An FIR was lodged against the Chief Whip and BJP MLC N Ravi Kumar for alleged remarks against Deputy Commissioner Fauzia Taranum at Kalburgi’s Station Market Police Station.

Controversy has arisen after an inflammatory remarks made by District Collector Fauzia Taranum by BJP MLC in Kalburgi district of Karnataka and Chief Whip of Opposition in the Legislative Council. Ravikumar allegedly said, “I don’t know if DC has come from Pakistan or there are any IAS officers here.” This comment has come amidst the ongoing tension related to a recent incident in Chittapur. An FIR was lodged against the Chief Whip and BJP MLC N Ravi Kumar for alleged remarks against Deputy Commissioner Fauzia Taranum at Kalburgi’s Station Market Police Station.

The statement of CM Siddaramaiah of Karnataka has come out. He said that whatever BJP MLC Ravi Kumar said is not appropriate. This is a statement that creates enmity. They (Kalburgi DC Fauzia Taranum) will be nothing, but this is to create enmity in the society. A police complaint and FIR will be registered against him. I strongly condemn this. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivkumar said that Indian Administrative Service Association officials and others met me this morning. They are all surprised. He (Faujia Tarannum) is a very clean officer. This is his honor towards a female officer. The government will take action and I ask for clarification from BJP president and Union ministers.

Karnataka minister Priyank Kharge condemned Ravikumar’s remarks and described it as “extremely unpleasant”. He said, “Look at BJP leaders and their speeches across the country, it reflects a very disturbing mentality. It is unacceptable to make such allegations against a respected officer.” He further said, “Those who talk about their own fellow citizens, can we call them real Indian? They are antisocial themselves.” Congress leader and Minister of State Sharan Prakash Patil accused the BJP of unnecessarily increasing tension and politicizing the administration. Patil said, “This is a deliberate attempt to incite the atmosphere and make communal. Such statements against an official performing their duties are unacceptable.”
