BJP’s protest continues demanding Mamata’s resignation over RG Kar Hospital incident

Kolkata: The BJP continued its protests in parts of West Bengal on Friday, demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goel over the alleged mishandling of the RG Kar Hospital incident. Its leaders criticised the state government in speeches at their protest site in the Esplanade area, while some women protesters made drawings with their blood and held placards demanding justice for the victim, a party spokesperson said.
An intern doctor was allegedly raped and murdered at the city’s RG Kar Hospital last month. “We demand the chief minister’s resignation for failing to ensure safety of women at the workplace and trying to cover up the incident,” said a protester.
The BJP has been protesting since August 29. Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Shubhendu Adhikari led a BJP procession in Naihati-Bhatpara in North 24 Parganas district. Adhikari said that the people of Bengal will celebrate Durga Puja wholeheartedly after the resignation of the Chief Minister. He said, “This may happen soon.” Adhikari said, “However, it is a personal choice how to celebrate the festival. We will definitely worship Goddess Durga.
