Vadodara. After a good performance by the bowlers led by Haley Mathews, Mumbai Indians defeated the Gujarat Giants by five wickets in the Women’s Premier League on Tuesday in the Women’s Premier League and registered a fifth consecutive win against the team. Chasing Gujarat’s target of 121 runs, Mumbai Indians won the first win of the current session by scoring 122 runs for five in 16.1 overs with the help of 57 runs from 11 fours in 39 balls.
The team of Gujarat giant was earlier piled up for 120 runs in 20 overs in front of Mathews (three wickets for 16 wickets), Amelia Ker (22 wickets) and Nat Skifer (two for 26) (two for 26). Harleen Deol (32 runs) was the top scorer for Gujarat. Apart from him, only Keshavi Gautam (20) touched the 20 -run figure. Mumbai Indians, who came out to chase the target, made a cautious start by scoring 37 runs for one wicket in power play. Mathews opened the account with a fours on Ashleg Gardner (17). He also hit two fours on Tanuja Kanwar but caught Harleen in this over.
As soon as the NAT Skivor arrived, Tanuja hit a four and then Diandra Dotin’s ball was also taken to the boundary. He also hit two fours on Priya Mishra. Priya gave a second blow to Mumbai by catching Yastika Bhatia (08) at the hands of Laura Volvart. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur also fell off the ball of Keshavi Gautam (two for 15 runs) after scoring just four runs. The Nat Skivor was followed by a great partner in the form of Amelia (19). The NAT Skifer completed his half -century in 33 balls and a century of team runs in 33 balls with two fours on Ashleg Gardner in the 14th over. Keshavi, however, lbw Amelia in the next over. Mumbai Indians needed 17 runs to win in the last five overs.
Priya Mishra (two wickets for 40) bowled the Nat Skver but Sajeevan Sajna (10 not out) and G. Kamalini (04 not out) won the team. Earlier, Mumbai captain Harmanpreet won the toss and decided to bowl first and the bowlers proved this decision to be correct by taking four wickets of Gujarat giant by 28 runs in power play. The NAT Skivor Brant caught Bath Muni (01) on the second ball at the second over at the hands of Sanskriti Gupta at Short Third Man. Opener Laura Volvart (04) hit Shabnim Ismail’s first four of the innings but caught Sajeevan Sajna in the next over of this fast bowler. Matthews sent Dylan Hemlata (09) to the pavilion, while the Skivor Brant caught Ashleg Gardner (10) at the hands of Sajna and gave Gujarat giant fourth blow on the final ball of the power play.
Diandra Dotin (07) hit Amelia Kerr, but in the next over of this spinner, wicketkeeper Yastika Bhatia stumped, causing Gujarat giants to score 43 runs for five wickets. Keshavi Gautam (20) completed the half-century of the team in the 10th over with two fours on Parunika Sisodia, a member of the Under-19 T20 World Cup winning team. Keshavi hit the first six of the innings on Long on on Shabnim but caught the wicketkeeper Yastika off Matthews.
Harleen, however, kept one end. He tried to increase the run speed with two fours on Amelia. Simran Sheikh (03), however, caught Amelia off Mathews. Harleen hit a four on the Nat Skivor while Tanuja Kanwar (13) saw Mathews ball to see the boundary. Tanuja completed a century of the team’s runs in the 17th over with fours on Amanjot but Harleen returned to the pavilion by catching Matthews in this over. Harleen hit four fours in a 31 -ball innings. Amelia caught Tanuja at the hands of culture in the next over. Sayali Satgare (13 not out) hit Amanjot two fours but Priya Mishra (02) was run out on the last ball of the innings.
