Case of murder of 12 -year -old child in Thane, High Court granted bail to 2 accused

The Bombay High Court has granted bail to two Thane people who were accused of kidnapping and killing a 12 -year -old boy by helping their friend, calling him ‘impotent’. During the recent hearing, the court ruled that the prosecution had failed to present enough evidence to prove the direct involvement of the two accused in the crime. The case revolves around the death of a young boy Ibad Bubere from Kulgaon village in Thane district, who was kidnapped and murdered on 24 March 2024.

The victim’s neighbor Salman Maulvi, Safuan Maulvi and Abdul Maulvi, who are around twenty years old, were arrested for crime. According to the police, the three conspired to kill Ibad, as he had allegedly sexually made objectionable remarks about Safuan, after which the boy was kidnapped, his mouth was shut down and strangled. His body was later thrown behind his own house. Police investigation revealed that the accused had been planning a crime for months and had obtained fake SIM cards to call the victim’s parents for ransom. However, only Safuan Maulvi was considered the main criminal, while Salman and Abdul were accused of assisting and promoting him.

Advocates AR Bukhari and Ashok Mundargi, who represent Salman and Abdul during the bail hearing, argued that the prosecution case was mainly based on circumstantial evidence. He highlighted that the main evidence came from the statements of two witnesses – an ice cream vendor and a vada pav seller – who saw Sufiyan taking Ibad away from a group of people during Ramadan prayers, while two other accused were chasing him. The lawyers argued that these testimonys do not prove to be the involvement of Salman and Abdul in the murder.
