The Supreme Court on Monday directed the early hearing of 11 cases related to the 1984 anti -Sikh riots in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, in which the chargesheets were filed after re -investigation. A bench of Justice Suryakant and Justice N. Kotishwar Singh asked the Special Public Prosecutors appointed in the case to appear in the courts in addition to the measures for early settlement of cases. The bench underlined the excessive delay in the case and ordered a early hearing of the cases. Advocate Ruchira Goyal, appearing for the Uttar Pradesh government, said that in case of anti -Kanpur Sikh riots, the 40 -year -old obscure FIR was sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory to find out its content, but the laboratory has not yet reported.

On March 3, the bench allowed the Uttar Pradesh government to appoint forensic experts to recreate a four -decade -old unclear FIR in the case, and requested the director of the laboratory not to emphasize the original FIR, which was not easily available in the records of the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Kanpur.

Even though CFSL has found the content of the FIR unclear, the laboratory of the court was asked to “identify Hindi words/expressions”, on the basis of which the victims may be able to submit their protest petitions in the court concerned.
