India has refused to tour Pakistan. Meanwhile, the International Cricket Council has sought answers from the Pakistan Cricket Board on hosting the Champions Trophy in the hybrid model. The PCB had confirmed on Sunday that it had received an email from the ICC, stating that the Indian team will not tour Pakistan.
There is news that, if Pakistan Cricket Board refuses to host then the tournament can be organized in South Africa. Pakistan cricket may suffer a big loss. The ICC has assured the PCB regarding the hybrid model that it will get the full hosting fees and most of the matches. India has not toured Pakistan since the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. The two teams compete against each other only in ICC tournaments.
Unless the PCB decides to back out of hosting the Champions Trophy, the current plan is to host India’s matches in the UAE and the final in Dubai, a source told PTI. BCCI has told ICC that the hybrid model is acceptable to them only if the final is held in Dubai and not in Pakistan.
The PCB on Monday did not react to BCCI informing the ICC that it will not send its team to Pakistan to play in the Champions Trophy. News agency PTI, quoting sources, has informed that the ICC has asked the PCB to confirm whether the hybrid model is acceptable to them, in which India’s matches and the final will be held in Dubai.
At the same time, ICC has assured PCB that under this arrangement they will get the full hosting fees and most of the matches. The source said that the ICC has told the PCB that it will get the full hosting fees and most of the matches if it decides to host the mega event on the hybrid model.
The source also said that, if PCB decides to withdraw from hosting the tournament due to India’s refusal, then ICC may consider shifting the tournament to South Africa. Earlier, a PCB source had said that there has been no discussion on the hybrid model yet.
