Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi launched the ‘developed village, developed Odisha’ (BGBO) scheme for rural infrastructure projects in the state.
Majhi said that the implementation of this scheme will eliminate the difference between villages and towns and people of rural areas will get all the facilities available in urban areas. The Chief Minister launched the scheme in Janakia village, about 30 km from Bhubaneswar. He said that under the BGBO scheme, all 53,845 villages across the state will be developed.
Majhi said, “We are focusing on the development of villages because 81 percent of the state’s population lives in rural areas.” The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Odisha by the previous government of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) The BGBO scheme has been announced in place of the ‘Ama Odisha Naveen Odisha’ (AONO) scheme launched.
Majhi said that the state government has allocated a budget of Rs 1,000 crore for the BGBO scheme in the financial year 2024-25 and Rs 5,000 crore will be spent in a period of five years.
However, he also said that the previous BJD government had launched the AONO scheme, but no budget was kept for it. He said, “The BJD government launched the AONO scheme just before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections to mislead people.”
The Chief Minister said that roads, bridges, culverts, school buildings, civic amenities, welfare pavilions, sports and other infrastructure will be developed under the BGBO scheme. He informed that preference will be given to tribal, backward classes and Dalit dominated villages under BGBO scheme.
