The All India Congress Committee (AICC) said that the decision has been approved by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and it has come into force with immediate effect. Along with the promotion of Gogoi, the party has also appointed three new executive presidents for the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC).
The Congress appointed Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi as the new president of the Assam unit in place of Bhupen Kumar Bora. The announcement was made by AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal and officially shared the party’s X handle. Along with the promotion of Gogoi, the party has also appointed three new executive presidents for the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC).
These three names are Zakir Hussain Sikdar, Roselina Tirkey and Pradeep Sarkar. Gaurav Gogoi, son of former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, was a three -time MP from Kaliyabor and contested from Jorhat seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and won. He has been a major face of the party in the Northeast and has been an outspoken critic of the BJP -led government in both the state and the center. Organizational change has occurred at such an important time when the Congress wants to strengthen its position in Assam, where the BJP has gained important electoral lead in recent years.
All eyes are on Assam, where elections are to be held in 2026. This is a state election that did not show much interest at one time, but now Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa is drawing everyone’s attention due to the allegations made by Sarma. Sarma has alleged that Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi and his wife visited Pakistan several times without telling the central government, and also said that his wife had relations with Pakistan.
