The Congress party said on Friday that it will soon challenge the constitutionality of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill in the Supreme Court. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh attacked the Narendra Modi government on the Indian Constitution to the passage of the bill in a post and said that his party would continue opposing it. He wrote, “There is a hearing in the Supreme Court on challenging CAA, 2019 by the Congress. The Supreme Court is being heard in the Supreme Court on challenging the amendments of 2019 in the RTI Act, 2005.”

The Congress leader further said that the Congress is being heard in the Supreme Court on the challenge regarding the validity of amendments in the Election Operation Rules (2024). The intervention by the Congress is being heard in the Supreme Court to maintain the original spirit of the place of worship Act, 1991. Ramesh wrote, “The Congress will soon challenge the constitutionality of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024 in the Supreme Court.” He said that we have full faith and we will continue to oppose all the attacks of the Modi government on the principles, provisions and practices inherent in the Constitution of India.
Parliament approved the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025 on Friday morning. Earlier, after a debate for more than 13 hours, the Rajya Sabha approved this controversial bill. In the discussion, strong objections were raised by the opposition parties. Opposition parties termed the bill as anti -Muslim and unconstitutional. The government replied that the “historical reform” would benefit the minority community. The bill was voted in the Rajya Sabha by 128 members and 95 in protest. It was passed in the Lok Sabha on Thursday morning. It supported 288 members and 232 opposed it.

The Parliament also approved the Muslim Waqf (Relations) Bill, 2025. The Rajya Sabha has also approved the bill. The Lok Sabha has already approved the bill. Opposition Indian block parties opposed the bill, alleging that it is “unconstitutional” and aims to target Muslims. He claimed that the purpose of the law is to capture the assets of Muslims and hand them over to the corporations.
