Conspiracies on the Chicken Neck Corridor and growing relations with Pakistan have made it clear that India will now have to be prepared not only from the strategic point of view but also through diplomatic and military measures. The way relations between Bangladesh and Pakistan have increased in recent times is an alarm bell for India. Especially the visit of ISI Chief to Bangladesh and the visit of Bangladeshi Army officers to Pakistan indicate that both the countries together are planning to take some big step against India. Chicken Neck, also known as Siliguri Corridor, is a narrow stretch of land in India that connects the north-eastern states of India to the rest of India. This area is an important part of India’s strategic security. The borders of Rangpur district of Bangladesh fall near this corridor and Chicken Neck is situated at a distance of only 130 kilometers from here. Amidst the growing relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh, this area is becoming the biggest cause of concern for India.

Intelligence sharing and military cooperation were discussed during this visit. A statement regarding this has also come out from India’s side. The Ministry of External Affairs said it is closely monitoring recent developments and will take appropriate action when it comes to national security. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that we keep an eye on all activities in the country and the region as well as all activities that affect national security and the government will take appropriate steps.
A high-profile delegation of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) led by Major General Shahid Amir Afsar recently concluded a 3-day visit to Bangladesh. The visit comes after the recent visit of top military officials of Bangladesh to Pakistan. Bangladesh Army Chief had gone to Pakistan and met the chiefs of the three armies. After the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Muhammad Yunus-led Bangladesh has come closer to Pakistan.
