However, according to the Union Health Ministry, most of the reports reported are mild and are under home care, and there is no indication of an increase in the severity or infectious of the variants that occur currently. The ministry has also issued a counseling after a slight increase in Kovid-19 cases in many Indian states, appealing not to panic with citizens but to be vigilant.

The Ministry highlighted that a strong national monitoring system is applicable through the integrated Disease Monitoring Program (IDSP) and the Prahari Monitoring Network of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), which monitors respiratory diseases including Kovid-19. According to INSACOG data, a case of newly emerged Covid-19 variant NB.1.8.1 in India and four cases of LF.7 variants have been identified.

By May 2025, the World Health Organization (WHO) LF.7 and NB.1.8 classifies sub -variants as variants (vum) under monitoring, not as a variant of anxiety (VOC) or interest (VOI). But these variants are allegedly causing an increase in Kovid cases in China and parts of Asia. According to INSACOG, the JN.1 variant remains the most prevalent in India, which has 53% attendance in the tested samples, followed by the presence of BA.2 26% and the presence of other Omikron sub-dynasty is 20%.
