The Kerala government is going to launch a large -scale anti -drug campaign from April, in which various departments, institutions and public will be united to deal with drug abuse, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced on Monday. Speaking at a high -level meeting at the assembly building, Vijayan said that all the existing anti -drug initiatives will be integrated into this comprehensive campaign. A preparation meeting of experts, students and youth organizations, film, cultural and media groups as well as teachers and parents associations has been scheduled on 30 March to prepare an action plan. A committee will be formed under the leadership of the Chief Secretary to prepare an anti -drug de -drug blueprint. The Chief Minister emphasized that awareness programs should start from the lower primary school level and suggested to promote sports to add children to productive.

He also instructed the officials to keep hostels and public places intoxicated through intensive inspection and strict enforcement by police and excise departments. The local government department has been tasked to shut down shops selling drugs, while modern testing equipment and additional investigative dogs will be deployed to assist in enforcement. Vijayan also highlighted the need for cooperation with the police forces of other states when needed and announced steps to prevent online drug transactions.

Security measures will be tightened at airports, railway stations and ports, as well as vehicles entering Kerala, including courier, parcels and tourist vehicles, will be increased on the border. In the meeting, the ministers gave information about the initiatives against the drugs running in their respective departments.
