Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that culture, food and cricket connect India and Guyana and these similarities are a strong basis of friendship between the two countries. Addressing a community event in Guyana on Thursday, the Prime Minister lauded the Indian-Guyanese community and their contribution to the development of the Caribbean nation.
He said that the shared values between the two countries provide a strong foundation for friendship. “Three things in particular – culture, food and cricket – connect the hearts of India and Guyana,” he said.
Prime Minister Modi said that both the countries are proud of their rich and diverse culture. “We see diversity as something to be celebrated, not just accommodated,” he said. Our countries show that cultural diversity is our strength.
Prime Minister Modi said, “Love for cricket also connects our countries. It’s not just a game. It is a way of life that is deeply embedded in our national identity.”
Praising the Indian-Guyanese community, he said, “You have fought for freedom and democracy. You have worked to make Guyana one of the fastest growing economies.
