Dr Shukla Raval, who hails from Gujarat, was honoured under the Community Service Award category at the IMA headquarters in Delhi for her exceptional achievements and unwavering commitment to the medical profession.

New Delhi. On the occasion of National Doctors Day, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) organized an award ceremony to honor doctors who have inspired many by demonstrating extraordinary dedication and commitment to improving the health and well-being of society by prioritizing it. Dr. Shukla Rawal, a resident of Gujarat, was honored under the Community Service Award category at the IMA headquarters in Delhi for her special achievements and her unwavering commitment to the medical profession.

Dr. Shukla Rawal, along with Dr. Smita Joshi, has played a key role in advocating for the inclusion of juvenile diabetes in government health programmes in the state of Gujarat. Actively involved in health and wellness programmes for women and children, both these doctors have constantly urged the Government of Gujarat and the Government of India to make necessary provisions in government hospitals. As a result of their tireless efforts, the Health and Family Welfare Department of the Government of Gujarat has initiated several important measures to provide treatment for juvenile diabetes across the state. For the financial year 2023-24, the District Panchayat allocated Rs 10.95 lakh to purchase insulin pens and cartridges for children suffering from diabetes, with an increased budget of Rs 30 lakh for the financial year 2024-25.

National Doctor's Day is celebrated every year on July 1 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy, the country's iconic physician and the second Chief Minister of West Bengal. His significant contributions to healthcare and public health are remembered even today. In the year 1991, the Government of India officially declared July 1 as National Doctor's Day. The day is celebrated as a special occasion to express gratitude to doctors and healthcare professionals for their tireless service, dedication and perseverance in ensuring the well-being of all.
