Eid Holiday canceled: Big change in Eid holiday in Haryana, Naib Saini Sarkar removed from the list of gazetted holiday

The Haryana government has amended its holiday list and changed Eid-ul-Fitr from the gazetted holiday to a restricted holiday. The decision was taken citing the captives at the end of the financial year. However, the government clarified that people of the Muslim community can still take leave on Eid. According to the order issued by Haryana Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi, a partial amendment has been made in the notification of 26 December 2024. The revised notification states that Eid-ul-Fitr, celebrated on 31 March 2025, will be considered as restricted holiday (RH) instead of gazetted holidays. The decision was influenced by the fact that 29 and 30 March falls on the weekend, and 31 March 2024–25 is the last day of the financial year. This instruction has been sent to all government departments.

Government offices will be open on Eid
After this decision, all government offices on Eid in Haryana will be open. However, if eligible employees want to celebrate the festival, they can apply for the holiday. Eid has been removed from the gazetted holiday list, but Muslim employees can still take a personal holiday on the occasion.

Difference between restricted and gazetted holiday
Restricted holiday (RH) is an alternative holiday that employees may choose to take or not. This is not a compulsory holiday and the offices remain open. Employees can decide whether they want to take a holiday based on personal or religious priorities. Gazetted holiday (GH) is a compulsory public holiday recognized by the government, during which offices, banks and institutions are closed. Unlike restricted holidays, gazetted holidays apply to all employees without exception.
