End of an era…Farewell given to Ratan Tata with full state honours, crowd gathered at the funeral

Tata Sons Chairman Emeritus Ratan Tata was cremated with full state honors in Worli, Maharashtra on Thursday evening. He breathed his last on Wednesday at Breach-Candy Hospital in Mumbai. The honorary chairman of Tata Group was 86 years old. He was also given a formal guard of honor by the Mumbai Police after his body was brought to a crematorium in Worli for cremation.

Tata’s funeral was attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal. Shah paid tribute to Tata’s mortal remains on behalf of the Indian government as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Laos to attend the ASEAN-India and East Asia Summit. Earlier, Tata’s mortal remains were kept at the National Center for Performing Arts (NCPA) in South Mumbai from 10 am to 4 pm on Thursday for people to pay their respects.
Leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Ministers of almost every state paid tribute. Maharashtra government has declared one day mourning. A religious leader present at the crematorium said that the last rites were performed as per Parsi tradition. He said that after the last rites, rituals will be performed for three days at the late industrialist’s bungalow in Colaba, South Mumbai. Padma Vibhushan awardee Ratan Tata (86) died in a city hospital on Wednesday night.
Thousands of people from different walks of life, including politicians and industry personalities, gathered at the ‘National Center for the Performing Arts’ (NCPA) in South Mumbai on Thursday to pay tribute to industrialist Ratan Tata. Ratan Tata was recognized as more than just a top man in the industry. Tata’s body was kept in a coffin draped with the tricolor. Everyone from common people to special people were reaching there to pay tribute to him.

Nationalist Congress Party (SP) president Sharadchandra Pawar, his daughter and MP Supriya Sule, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray, Aditya Birla Group chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla, finance veteran Deepak Parekh and Reserve Bank of India Governor Shaktikanta Das. Reached NCPA and paid tribute to Ratan Tata. Even before Tata’s mortal remains were brought from his residence to the NCPA, many people stood patiently in queues waiting to get a last glimpse of him. People have immense respect for Ratan Tata in their hearts for various reasons.
