Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani died in an Air India aircraft accident in Ahmedabad, causing political fraternity to shock. Vijay Rupani, a veteran of Gujarat politics, started his political journey in 1987 as a councilor in the Rajkot Municipal Corporation.
Former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani was given 21 cannon salutes. The funeral of the former CM has been performed with full state honors. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat were also present. From the simple beginning, he continued to move forward – Rajkot Mayor, Rajya Sabha MP, President of Gujarat BJP, Cabinet Minister and finally became the Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2016. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Governor Acharya Devvrat paid tribute to former Chief Minister Vijay Rupani in Rajkot before the funeral. Many people, including women, rained flowers and folded hands with moist eyes, giving a final farewell to Rupani (68). His last rites were performed with full state honors. The last journey arrived from his house to the funeral site by covering a distance of six kilometers.
The Gujarat government has declared a one -day state mourning in the memory of Rupani today. In Gujarat too, Rupani played an important role in winning the BJP 156 out of 182 seats, which strengthened the party’s hold in the state since 1995. Rupani was among the 242 people who were riding in the aircraft AI171. The aircraft flew from Ahmedabad Airport on June 12 and left for London’s Gatwick Airport. BJP leaders were going to meet their daughter in the British capital. Three days after the accident, Rupani’s body was identified through DNA test and his remains were handed over to his family. His body was taken from Ahmedabad to Rajkot for the last rites.
