The Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday arrested former Chhattisgarh Excise Minister Kawasi Lakhma in an alleged liquor scam worth crores of rupees. An agency source said that Lakhma, a six-time MLA from Konta, Sukma, was being interrogated in ED’s Raipur for the last few days. It is alleged that this scam took place under the previous Congress government, in which Lakhma was also involved.

On December 28, the ED raided premises linked to Lakhma, including her official residence in Chhattisgarh capital Raipur and the residence of her son Harish in Sukma. Speaking to media persons after the ED raid, Lakhma said “They asked me if I knew about the liquor scam. I said that I saw it on TV and read about it in newspapers but it did not come to my knowledge. I am an illiterate person. Whatever paper was placed in front of me, I signed it. I don’t know on what basis they took my signature.
He also alleged that he was being targeted. The liquor scam has been going on for a year, why didn’t they take action against me then? Local body elections are approaching and hence they want to defame me and harm the Congress party.
