After India’s crushing defeat in the Leeds Test, Team India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir has made it clear that there will be no change in the plan that manages the workload of Jaspreet Bumrah. Even though Team India lost the first match of the five -match Test series against England by 5 wickets. In the first innings of the first Test match played in Leeds’s headingley, Bumrah took five wickets and bowled around 25 overs. He did not get wickets in the second innings but threw 19 overs.

Initially, Head Coach Gambhir and Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar made it clear that Jasprit Bumrah would play three out of five Tests in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Bumrah is not available for the five matches of the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 because he went through a back injury during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in January. It took a long time to make his comeback and then he was able to return to IPL 2025 itself.

Gambhir said in a press conference after the match that, I think it is more important for us to manage Bumrah’s charge because there is a lot of cricket left and we know what he can do for us. So before coming on this tour, it was decided that he would play three Test matches but see how his body is but it has not decided which two other Tests he will play.

Regarding the bowling attack, Gambhir said that, one of the bowlers has played five Test matches in this bowling attack, one has played two matches, and one has not made his debut yet. We have to give them time. Earlier we used to have four Gedambaz with more than 40 Test matches experience. It does not have such a major impact in ODI or T20 matches, but when you go to Australia, England or South Africa for Tests, experience matters. Right now is the early days of this series.
