Congress Working Committee member Dr Ajay Kumar on Thursday said that Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Hemant Soren will be the face of the 'India' alliance in the assembly elections to be held in the state this year.

Jamshedpur. Congress Working Committee member Dr Ajay Kumar said on Thursday that Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Hemant Soren will be the face of the 'India' alliance in the assembly elections to be held in the state this year. Hemant, son of JMM chief Shibu Soren, took oath as Chief Minister for the third time on Thursday after senior party leader Champai Soren resigned on Wednesday. Kumar said, “The change of Chief Minister in Jharkhand will not affect the chances of India alliance in the assembly elections. Rather, we will perform much better than the 2019 elections.”

Congress is part of the JMM-led coalition government in Jharkhand. Kumar claimed, “There is resentment among Dalits, tribals, backward classes and general caste people due to keeping Hemant Soren in jail for five months without any evidence.” When asked whether there is a consensus among the members of the ruling coalition to contest the assembly elections under the leadership of Hemant Soren, the senior Congress leader said that there is hardly any difference of opinion on this issue.
