Himachal: Former Congress MLA was shot by unknown people

Former Congress MLA Bambar Thakur from Bilaspur in Himachal Pradesh was allegedly shot by unknown assailants at his house. The police gave this information on Friday.

Police said a search operation has been started to apprehend the accused. Thakur and his private security officials were injured in the attack. Thakur is shot in the leg and has been referred to Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) in Shimla, while his private security officer (PSO) has been taken to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bilaspur.

Taking cognizance of the incident, Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said, “I have spoken to Bambar Thakur and urged him to go to AIIMS, but he wants to get treatment in IGMC Shimla.” The Deputy Commissioner has been instructed to take necessary action. ”

In a video message, the Chief Minister said, “Instructions have been issued to put inhibitors on the roads and forelane to catch those who are behind the firing incident.”

Former MLA, was celebrating Holi with other people in the premises of the government residence allotted to the wife, when four people came and started firing. According to an eyewitness, the attackers fired around 12 rounds.

Bilaspur Superintendent of Police Sandeep Dhawal told ‘PTI-language’ that a campaign has been started to catch the culprits. He said that the attackers have allegedly run on foot towards the main market.

Dhawal said that he would be arrested and a case would be registered under the relevant sections of the law. Desh Thakur, the elder brother of the Congress leader, said that Bambar Thakur hid behind the car to save his life. His personal security officer was fired two to three bullets.

He said, “We suspect that people who had earlier attacked him have tried to attack again.” The investigation will reveal the truth. ”He said that Thakur has been fighting against drug trade, especially ‘Chitta (adulterated heroin)’ for the last one year and demanded strict action against those involved in anti -social activities. In February 2024, Thakur was seriously injured in an attack in the presence of his son Puranjan Thakur.
