There was an uproar in the Assam Legislative Assembly on Monday when the ruling BJP alleged that Deputy Chairman Numal Momin was attacked by Congress MLA Nurul Huda outside the House, due to which the proceedings of the House had to be postponed. However, Huda claimed that he did not attack Momin, but stopped the path of the House during the protest. Congress MLAs attended the assembly wearing black clothes to protest against BJP MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi, who abused opposition MLAs inside the House last week and tried to physically attack them.
Assam Minister Piyush Hazarika tweeted that the physical attack on Deputy Chairman Dr. Numal Momin by Congress MLA Nurul Huda is not only a condemnable act, but it is also a direct insult to the assembly and the constitution. Assam Assembly is the sacred place of democracy, where such unconstitutional behavior is completely unacceptable. Such actions are against the true values of Assam and India. Assam BJP President Bhabesh Kalita said that during the Question Hour in the assembly session today, our Deputy Chairman Numal Momin was attacked by Congress MLA Nurul Huda. This is not leading a good message about democracy. I condemn this. The Congress does not follow any rules. They ruined the country and they are also trying to destroy democracy.
AIUDF MLA Majibur Rahman said that the allegation of Nurul Huda of Deputy Speaker Numal Momin is false and concocted. This (BJP MLA) is an issue brought to save Rupjyoti Kurmi. Shortly before this, Momin was seen sitting inside the House and participating in the session. After some time he left the House. Speaker Biswajit Dahari said that he has asked the authorities to investigate the case. Reacting to the allegations of the Chief Minister, Leader of the Opposition Devvrat Saikia demanded that a committee of the House should be constituted to investigate the case instead of police, as it is reported that the incident took place inside the assembly building.
