Trump, however, did not clarify what action he would take if the hostages were not released. Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023 and took a large number of people hostage. Officials say about 100 people are still being held by Hamas, including some American citizens.
Officials also believe that many of the hostages may have died by now. “If the hostages are not returned, everything will fall apart,” Trump told reporters at Mar-a-Lago, Florida. He was responding to a question on the status of talks with Hamas on the release of American hostages. Trump warned Hamas to release all hostages by January 20. “It wouldn’t be good for Hamas, and frankly, it wouldn’t be good for anyone,” he said. Everything will be ruined. I don’t need to say anything else but that’s how it is. They should have released the hostages long ago. An attack like October 7 should never have happened.
