BCCI has recently handed over the command of the Indian T20 team to aggressive batsman Suryakumar Yadav. He has overtaken Hardik Pandya in the captaincy race. Hardik was the vice-captain of the team in the T20 World Cup 2024. Speculations began that all is not well between Hardik and Surya. But before leaving for the Sri Lanka tour, both of them put a full stop to such speculations. Hardik gave Surya a magic hug at the airport, a glimpse of which was seen in the video shared by BCCI. The footage of the two hugging is becoming increasingly viral.

On why Suryakumar Yadav was made the captain of T20, Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar said that he was a worthy candidate. He has been in the dressing room for more than a year and feedback has been received about him from the dressing room. He has a good understanding of cricket and he is still one of the best batsmen in the world in T20 cricket. He said that we wanted a captain who plays all the matches. We feel that he deserves to be the captain and we will see how he fits into this role.

Agarkar also said that we wanted a captain who has a good fitness record and who has no history of injuries. Regarding Hardik, Agarkar said that it is difficult to find skills like Hardik and it is difficult to find fitness. We have some more time and we can look into some things. He further said that Hardik is a very important player for us but fitness is a big challenge. We want a player who is available most of the time.
