The United States on Sunday urged both India and Pakistan to work towards the “responsible solution”. The tension between neighboring countries has increased after the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April. The US State Department spokesman said in an email statement to Reuters, “This is an emerging situation and we are closely monitoring the developments. We are in touch with the governments of India and Pakistan on many levels.” Publicly, the US government has expressed support for India after the attack, but has not criticized Pakistan.

Tension between India and Pakistan
The US State Department said that after the attack on April 22, the tension increased, it is in touch with the two governments at several levels, killing 26 people. Following this brutal attack, India announced a diplomatic attack against Pakistan, in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowed to identify, track and punish the terrorists and conspirators behind the attack. Pakistan replied in response and demanded an independent inquiry, while its minister openly threatened India. In view of the current tension, the US has urged both countries to “work towards the responsible solution”.

We are in touch with the governments of India and Pakistan at many levels, the spokesperson said, “The United States encourages all the parties to work together towards a responsible solution.” The State Department spokesman also said that Washington “stands with India and strongly condemns the terrorist attack in Pahalgam,” President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Repeating the same comments similar to the recent comments made by Wanes.
‘Washington stands with India’!
The spokesperson reiterated the US condemnation of the attack, saying that Washington “stands with India”, repeating similar comments by President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance. Washington sees New Delhi as a prominent partner in its efforts to combat China’s growing influence in Asia. Although Pakistan remains a US ally, its strategic importance has decreased after the US return from Afghanistan in 2021.

China supported Pakistan’s call for “fair investigation” of India’s allegations
Meanwhile, China on Sunday supported Pakistan’s call for “fair investigation” of India’s allegations. After a call between Pakistan Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, the Foreign Ministry of Beijing said that it supports a neutral investigation. Islamabad proposed that an investigation team may include experts from China, Russia or Western countries. Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif also said that his government is ready to participate in any neutral investigation into the Pahalgam attack.
The deadliest attack in Kashmir after Pulwama in 2019, the restricted Pakistan-based group Lashkar-e-Taiba representative was carried out by The Resistance Front. The government released pictures of three gunmen firing on unarmed tourists in a beautiful Basaron meadow near Pahalgam.
India also launched a series of diplomatic and safety measures, including suspending the 1960 Indus Water Treaty, closing the integrated check post in the attic to prevent land trade and suspending the SAARC visa discount scheme for Pakistani citizens, which gave time to exit within 40 hours.
Both countries have also reduced the number of employees among their highways. Indian officials defended these steps and described them as essential and proportional. However, Pakistan dismissed the allegations as “trivial” and warned that if India takes any further steps, it would have to face retaliation.
