Indian-American Ashwin Ramaswami supports Kamala's name for presidential candidacy

Indian-origin Democratic leader Ashwin Ramaswami supported the name of Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidential nomination on behalf of the party. Ramaswami said, “This (Kamala being elected President) will be a big leap towards the representation of Indian-Americans and AAPI (Asian American and Pacific Islander) in the country.”

Ramaswami is the Democratic Party's candidate for the Georgia State Senate District 48 election. His remarks came on Sunday, when Biden expressed his inability to contest the election and recommended Kamala Harris of Indian-African origin as the new candidate of the Democratic Party.

Ramaswami said, “Vice President Kamala Harris will make history as the first Indian-American President of the United States. This will be a giant leap towards the representation of the Indian-American and AAPI community in this country and will prove to be an inspiration for youth like me.”

Like Kamala Harris's mother Shyamala Gopalan Harris, my mother is also from Besant Nagar, Chennai, which makes it very special for me. Ramaswami said that he is grateful to President Biden for his great leadership and supports the name of Kamala Harris as the next Democratic candidate following in his footsteps.
