A Pakistani crew member suffering from several fractures and blood loss on the Oman coast was assisted by the Indian Navy. The member was riding on a fishing ship operating about 350 knots from the coast. Navy’s stealth frigate INS Trikand intercepted a crisis call from an Irani Dho Al Omidi on Friday, 4 April and found that the crew member had serious injuries in his fingers while working on the engine. The crew member was shifted to another ship called FV Abdul Rahman Hanzia, who was going to Iran. The ship had 16 crew members – 11 Pakistani citizens (9 Baloch and 2 Sindhi) and 5 Iranian citizens.
INS Trikand rapidly changed its route to provide medical aid. The injured crew member was identified as a Pakistani (Baloch) citizen, and he suffered several fractures and serious injuries in his hand, causing a lot of bleeding. A medical team from INS Trikand, which included the ship’s medical officer, Marine Commando and the boarding team of the ship, climbed the fishing ship.
The crew member was given local anesthesia and the team performed the process of stitches and stripping the injured fingers. The operation lasted for more than three hours and bleeding was controlled. This process prevented the possible permanent permanent loss to the injured fingers due to gangrene. The Indian Navy also provided medical supply to the ship including antibiotics to assist the crew until he reached Iran.
