Sudiksha Konanki, a 20 -year -old Indian -origin student at Pittsburgh University, is reported missing in the Dominican Republic when she went on a spring brake trip with friends. Officials believe that she must have drowned after being swept into the waves of the sea. Konanki, a student of biological science and chemistry, was part of a group of seven women who were holidaying at Punta Kana’s Riu Republic Hotel. According to the police report, she and another student stayed on the beach, while the rest of the group members returned to their hotel on the night of 5 March. Konanki was last seen on 6 March at 4:50 am.

Her father, Subbarayedu Konanki, told CNN that Sudiksha and her friends had gone to the beach to attend a party. While the rest of the people returned to the hotel, Sudiksha did not return. The group later reported his disappearance at 4 pm. Local authorities in the Republic of Dominican are running a comprehensive discovery campaign using helicopters and other resources to find him, but the search efforts have no result yet. Officials suspect that the coronation, which was allegedly floating at the time of the incident, may have been pulled into the sea by a powerful wave. However, his family has expressed concern about the possibility of kidnapping or human trafficking, urging the authorities to investigate beyond the search of water.

The University of Pittsburgh has expressed its support to the Konanki’s family and is working with local authorities and Indian embassy to assist in search. Additionally, the US State Department has issued Level 2 travel advice for the Republic of Dominican, which requested passengers to take precautions in the region due to concerns of violent crimes. The Konanki family is expected to solve, they have called for finding out all the possibilities in search of their daughter.
